How to Choose the Right Game Server Location
7/23/2026
Hardware gets all the attention, but location decides how your server feels. A 4 GB server 20 ms away beats a 16 GB server 120 ms away, every time.
Rule of thumb
Pick the location closest to the majority of your players, not to yourself.
- Players mostly in Turkey → Istanbul
- Mixed EU audience → Frankfurt
- Split roughly 50/50 → favour the group that plays the most competitively
What ping actually costs you
- 10-30 ms: feels instant; competitive play is fine
- 30-60 ms: perfectly playable for most games
- 60-100 ms: noticeable in shooters, fine for Minecraft/roleplay
- 100 ms+: players start blaming the server (and they're right)
Test before you commit
Ask a few players to ping both locations. Real numbers beat guesses.
Chose wrong? Open a ticket — we can migrate your server to another node, and your files come with it.
Bottom line
Buy the location first, the specs second. Your players feel latency in every single interaction; they only feel RAM when it runs out.
